Telling Stories Through the Lens: My Freelance Journey with Rock City Church
For the past decade, I’ve had the privilege of working in the creative world, and photography has been one of the most powerful tools in my creative toolkit. While photography is a major part of what I do, it’s not the only thing I bring to the table. As a relational person who loves connecting with others and sharing stories, I contract/freelance with Rock City Church to contribute to their broader digital presence and storytelling efforts.
Although I haven’t been with Rock City for 10 years, my years of experience as a photographer and content creator have allowed me to play a role in capturing and sharing the heart of the church. It’s a mix of creativity, digital content creation, and relationship-building that makes this collaboration so fulfilling.
Sunday Morning Experiences: Capturing Worship and Community
On Sunday mornings, my role is to capture the energy and emotion of worship, the connections between people, and the atmosphere that makes Rock City so special. I’m always on the lookout for authentic moments that reflect the heart of the service, from intimate shots of people during worship to the joy of community after the service. My photos help share the spirit of Rock City, even for those who may not be physically present.
Night to Shine: Celebrating Love and Inclusion
One of the most special events I photograph is Night to Shine, a prom night celebration for individuals with special needs. It’s a night filled with joy, love, and inclusivity, and my job is to capture those moments. Whether it’s the excitement of the red carpet or the laughter on the dance floor, I aim to document the celebration and create images that reflect the night’s true spirit of belonging.
Baptisms: Capturing Life-Changing Moments
Baptisms are some of the most sacred moments I get to photograph. The emotion, joy, and spiritual significance of this decision are captured in every frame, and it’s an honor to preserve these moments for the people being baptized, their families, and the church. These images tell the story of transformation and new beginnings within the Rock City community.
Contributing to the Church’s Digital Presence
Although my role is photography, the images I capture help contribute to Rock City’s larger digital presence. These photos are shared across the church’s social media platforms, website, and other online content, helping to connect people with the church’s mission and the life-changing moments that take place there.
Final Thoughts: A Holistic Approach to Storytelling
While photography is a big part of what I do, my work at Rock City is about more than just taking pictures. It’s about telling the church’s story, connecting with the community, and sharing moments that inspire and transform. I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute creatively and be part of such an impactful church.
